2014 Recipients

In 2014, the Committee for Excellence in Education awarded nine grants totaling $6,335.00 to the following: 

Jennifer Copperthite

Ms. Copperthite has been teaching for 20 years, all 20 in Fauquier County.  Currently, she teaches Earth Science & AP Environmental Science at Fauquier High School.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Earth & Space Science from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1994 and her master’s degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State University in 2005.  Ms. Copperthite was awarded a grant to chaperone students on an exchange visit to Builth Wells High School in Wales this summer.

 

Mariann Lynch 

Ms. Lynch has been teaching for 22 years, the past 13 in Fauquier County.  Currently, she teaches 8th Grade World Geography at Marshall Middle School.  She received her bachelor’s degree in 1982 and her master’s degree in 2000, both from the University of Pittsburgh.  Ms. Lynch was awarded a grant to attend two online classes to enhance the use of the Blackboard Learn program that Fauquier County Public Schools has adopted.

 

Wendy Oesterling 

Ms. Oesterling has been teaching for 11 years, the past six in Fauquier County.  Currently, she teaches Chorus & Orchestra at Liberty High School.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Music from Wittenberg University in 1972 and her master’s degree in Church Music from Shenandoah University in 2003.  Ms. Oesterling was awarded a grant to attend the String Teacher Workshop at Ohio State University this summer.

 

Alice Pleasants

Ms. Pleasants has been teaching for 21 years, the past 12 in Fauquier County.  Currently, she is the Library Media Specialist at Kettle Run High School.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Government & Politics from George Mason University in 1987 and her master’s degree in Education in 2007.  Ms. Pleasants was awarded a grant to chaperone students on an exchange visit to a high school in Freiburg, Germany this summer.
