"We can spend years in the same job, doing the same thing but if we don’t take the time to learn and grow we will stay in the same static position. We must recharge our professional minds in order to continue the excitement of learning for our students. This Spring I was fortunate to be selected for the Fauquier Excellence in Education Foundation (FEIEF) Grant. Off to Denver, Colorado I went to attend the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) annual conference. During the fabulous four days, 16,000 attendees from all over the world came to share, learn and collaborate on many educational technology topics. A large variety of sessions were offered including poster sessions, lectures, small group discussions and informal sharing areas.
Throughout the day I was able to listen to well known speakers, discuss the future of companies and their impacts on the schools. As well as learn new techniques to deliver the same education goals using current technology tools and peruse through short demonstrations describing STEM classes, STEAM Saturdays and Makerspace presentations delivered by children to name a few. Yet, the favorite among all of them was using critical thinking, geography skills, analyzation and evaluation of a historical event to figure out the lock combination to be released from a bus. Thank you for the funding and I look forward to sharing the ideas with colleagues and students during the upcoming school year." - Julie Kuzma
